Totally Devoid of Thought?

…Jeremy Allen White struts and then strips and then struts some more. He’s a specimen. I’m intimidated. He’s wearing a pair of perfectly white Calvin Klein boxer shorts that indicate his body works differently to the rest of us. His roof-top meandering is soundtracked by Lesley Gore’s You Don’t Own me, in what seems like a loose nod to the homoerotic films of Kenneth Anger. The film concludes with a close up. The actor pouting before he flops down on a heavy-gauge orange courduroy couch.

It’s classic Calvin Klein. We’ve all seen this ad before, either with Mark Wahlberg or Justin Bieber. It’s what you’d expect from them. It exploits a well established formula: celebrity, body, music, location. The ad community on Linkedin seems to be rushing to do two things: bemoan the lack of ‘insight’ and big idea, or, vehemently defend the ad for not needing either of those things.

It’s very well made. How many decisions must have been evaluated in the production of something like this?

I am thinking about Calvin Klein. Yesterday I wasn’t.

Surely that’s enough sometimes, no?
