Notes on a Process

I’m in increasingly equating writing with exercise.

There are the runs you look forward to and enjoy whilst you’re doing them.

And then there are runs where lacing up your shoes is a major effort. Where you hate every step. Where you drag your backside round a paltry two or three kilometers when the target is five plus.

There have been blog posts I’ve written which have been effortless. I’ve barely had to think about them. They take shape in notes and then on the page almost by themselves. They are high fidelity, with the words in the finished post closely mirroring the tone and intent of the words in my head.

And then there are posts where seemingly nothing makes it to the page in tact. Where it’s a struggle to wittle the germ of an idea into a coherent, logical or interesting argument.

My last post was a topic I wanted to write about. At it’s heart is a coherent, important argument. However, the execution is lacking. The writing feels breathless to me. Not the sort that Verlyn would promote and encourage.

I’m trying to come to terms with the fact that a badly written blog post is better than one you’d not even bothered to write. Again, back to the idea of the reps. Each keystroke offers compound interest.
